dc.description.abstractEn los censos recientes de los paises latinoamericanos se pueden reconocer avances en materias como procesamiento computacional moderno, empleo de tecnicas indirectas para estimaciones demograficas, y la realizacion de censos experimentales. No obstante subsisten ciertos problemas que limitan la disponibilidad y uso efectivo de la informacion censal. Entre ellos se pueden senalar el extenso repertorio de preguntas, la publicacion tardia de resultados y la falta de explotacion intensiva de los datos. Una mayor flexibilidad y versatilidad en el uso del muestreo podria representar claras ventajas. Por ultimo, entre los componentes del programa censal que exhiben fallas persistentes, se recomienda centrar la atencion en cartografia, tareas de supervision y archivos de datos.
